aka.. why i believe this fucking thing has a personality disorder.

He has NPD [narcissistic personality disorder] PLEASE do not take this as "i'm headcannoning the abusive serial killer with the evil bitch disorder because he's evil and kills people", i myself am a narcissist, and melon shows.. a lot of narc traits i relate to, like first off the lack of empathy and utter disregard or understanding of other beasts, yeah this is kinda just.. a hybrid thing in beastars but MAN, also he.. clearly has a fragile ego and a very vivid view of himself, melon is 'the love's failure, the devil of the back alley market, the cruel failed product of love' a persona he is so attatched to that he refuses to stray away of this view of himself and accept any sort of change for the better. in fact! dolph and miguel state that putting yourself down and praising him is the best way to pacify melon.,,,, narc shit. in fact! the few times people have called melon out or challanged his view of himself he's lashed out. [legoshi attempting to sympathize with him in vol 15, melon leads up to his theatric attempt to murder him right after legoshi states he doesn't view melon as a bad person, also agata calling him imoral for eating meat he does not know the species of,,,,, to which he stabs the poor fucker in the hand with a fork.] and,, ok narc pov here, i also get incredably pissed and violent when the complex version of myself that is built in my head is challaged.. ive never reached. melon levels as i'm a human person and not a shonen antagonist, but i HAVE. gotten violent before at my persona being threatened. but seriously melon honey, just bite yourself and zone out to marina and the diamonds while you list reasons you're better than evreybdy else in your head. thats what i do. it,,,,, helps?? also an interesting detail is his suicide attempt at the end of the manga, again this is my narc bias, but i feel like post-meat loving day he's absolutley going on an ego spiral, the attention and support of nearly the whole back alley gets to his head and mabye i look into his actions too much but he seems a lot more erratic after this. i am not trying to speak for all narcs here but theres this almost.. mania-like state ive gotten into after getting a lot of positive attention and it can make me spiral into bad patterns, thats what i think is going on with melon. and even like.. after he finds out the back alley is being demolished; the back alley. the source to feed his ego is dissapearing, he spirals!! he tries to play it off because he's in front of a bunch of people causing him to resort to being theatrical again, but he tries to kill himself. a part of him feels he's nothing withought the [to him] pathetic carnevores groveling for him, entertained by how unpredictable he is, so what else is there once you loose your ego supply? so he tries to kill himself, he tries to kill himself while also trying to make his death a dramatic statement with the whole "this land will be forever tainted if a hybrid died here right now in front of evreybody" he's still trying to get attention and fuel his ego by going down in infamy. but yeah i,,,, this was supposed to just be a list of funny headcannons but i wrote too much about my npd headcannon for melon...... i'll have to post the funnier ones after this sometime. and i again wanna state melon isn't perfect npd rep, he's.. litterally the "evil manipulative abusive bastard" steriotype that plauges the npd community. but i do see my traits in him and wanted 2 yap about it. melon go to therapy and fuccking run a tumblr blog where you shitpost to like 10 loyal mutuals, it gives you the same attention high i fucking promise.

Now you know how I keep writing ‘The Rogues’ with a capital ‘T’ right? I’ve since then been getting more and more confused about if the title should have it or not, since I’ve seen a bunch of people, including you, not include the capital at all. But like, to me it would make more sense for the ‘t’ to be a capital, because when you talk or think about the group as a whole, it’s THE Rogues and not just ‘Rogues’ like how you would probably refer to one individual from the group. (Would calling any of the guys a ‘Rogue’ makes sense? Like for example: “Hey, there’s a Rogue over there!” Have any characters actually referred to any of them like that? Because I haven’t read any comics that include a sentence like that. Unless I’m remembering wrong that is, or it feels weird to me because I know of a Marvel character that’s costume name is Rogue)

Maybe I’m just thinking too hard about this, but to me, it really does feel like when someone is referring to one member it’s ‘a Rogue’, but when someone is referring to few of the members or the whole group it should be ‘The Rogues’.

And there’s also this whole thing I’ve seen where people tag the guys with or without the word ‘the’ at the beginning. Like I’ve seen people tag James and Axel with either ‘Trickster’ or ‘The Trickster’ (and in my opinion, I’m more inclined to agree to tag both of them as the latter instead of the former). I’ve seen once or a few times where Hartley was tagged as ‘The Pied Piper’, and I’ve even seen Mark and Sam (or it could be Evan, I’m not entirely sure) tagged with a ‘the’ in the front as well. Of course Roscoe is tagged like that, but with nearly everyone else it’s either with or without the extra word.

I think it's a judgment call to capitalize or use lower case for 'the Rogues', though I'm no English major and don't know how grammatically sound one option is over another. Comics often aren't much help, because the lettering is often in all caps..!

I've just now looked at my collection of Flash volume 2 solicits, and they're erratic about when 'the' is capitalized; sometimes it is, and sometimes it isn't. But more often than not, it isn't capitalized.

There are indeed multiple instances in which 'Rogue' is used in a singular form, and I've included a few below, all from different writers. The story which introduced Replicant is even titled "Twenty-First Century Rogue", so there's a lot of precedent to use it in the singular.

I tag James and Axel with 'the Trickster' (there's that lower case 'the' again :> ), and I don't for Mirror Master, Weather Wizard, etc, even though you'll sometimes see them referred to as "the Mirror Master", "the Weather Wizard", "the Golden Glider", and "the Pied Piper" as you mentioned. It was a judgment call, mostly because "the Trickster" and "the Top" are used a lot more frequently than "the Rainbow Raider" et al. Occasionally Tumblr changes my tags and capitalizes 'the' when I know I left it in lower case, so maybe the site agrees with you :> (and sometimes it changes all capitals to lower case, especially in older posts)

(Another factor is that I created these tags nearly 15 years ago 😩 when I was pretty much just shitposting on this site, so I probably would have done things differently had I planned to keep a semi-serious long-term blog)

I write somewhat more formally when creating posts for Speed Force, and there I'm in the habit of writing "the Flash" when I'm talking about Wally or Barry and "The Flash" when talking about the title of the book. I don't know if that's grammatically correct, but it's what feels right to me to distinguish between the character(s) and the book itself.

I guess I should discuss the AU that's been rattling around in my brain in a little more detail, rather than just making shitposts about it. So here's the basic gist of it:

We all know there was one surviving universe at the end of Honerva's rampage in VLD's (pretty bad) finale before everything was restored to normal- but could it really survive everything that happened around it unscathed?

The answer is no. Of course it's no.

In a twist of irony, given Honerva's goals, Lotor is deleted from a universe that would have otherwise been very close to the canon universe as we know it- which is... kind of a problem, actually. As in 'the universe could fall apart if this event doesn't happen' problem. But don't worry. The cosmic forces of the universe has a stopgap measure of its own in place to protect itself.

After all, what could go wrong with the universe using one half-Galra to replace another?

Keith is born to Zarkon and Honerva in Lotor's place. He's always felt out of place in a way that simply only being half-Galra can't quite explain. He has a strong sensitivity to quintessence, and knows from a young age that his father and the witch that stands by his side are corrupted.

He knows he's corrupted too. he can hear things that are not him whispering in his head sometimes, telling him things. he ignores them.

(this is sometimes harder than he would like)

(on very rare occasions he hears a different voice from the rabble- one that calmly tells him not to do things. he listens to this one a little more.)

He grows up loathing his father- it's a mutual feeling. He knows that even before he was born, his mother loathed him as well. He grows up with no strong connection to their either side of his heritage.

(perhaps honerva subconsciously realized the child she was carrying was not her own)

He breaks away from the Empire on his own at an early age- he knows in his bones this is wrong, and wants no part in it. He ends up safeguarding a pocket of space from the Empire, but his motives remain erratic and he stays aloof from the other forces against the Empire, so he's not exactly trusted by them.

After all, he's not exactly not still a part of the Empire himself. Zarkon's not going to let his only heir walk away that easily.

He still ends up meeting Acxa, Narti, Ezor and Zethrid.

He's born with the Altean talent of shapeshifting- though he's better at it than most. He wears three faces- the Galran prince, the Altean wanderer, and then a third face, one of a race he has never seen before, yet feels oddly familiar to him.

(Sometimes it feels more natural than the one he was born with.)

He later learns of a planet called Earth, and its people known as humans, who so resemble his third face- and the blue lion with them. He decides to keep an eye on the planet with the excuse of trying to protect the lion... which is surely the only reason he feels such a strong draw to this otherwise backwater planet.

Which is great, because it turns out replacing Lotor with Keith created another problem the universe has to deal with- there isn't a Keith anymore to pilot the red lion.

He just kind of gets swept up in everything when the blue lion awakens, and before he knows it, he's on the Castle of Lions, and Princess Allura of all people is telling him he's a paladin. They all seem to think he's human.

Somehow, he senses it would be a very, very bad idea to tell them all he's actually Zarkon's son.

Great job Keith. You signed up for the universe's most stressful double life. I'm sure this is going to work out real well.

Still not entirely sure about sending asks (specifically just questions, even though that’s the literal purpose. To overshare unnecessarily, feels like I need a reason too otherwise it’s annoying. I am working on it, but yay social anxiety and overthinking :’D), but if you don’t mind me asking a somewhat-off-but-still-on-topic-question, what are your thoughts on worldbuilding?

Hope that’s not too broad, but do you have a favorite part? The finding inspiration? The fleshing out of ideas? Plotting a storyline? Do you care about the intricacies or is it more broad and left too imagination (basically hard vs soft worldbuilding)?

On that note, what are some of your favorite things you’ve created? That you could yap about forever (you can most definitely info dump or keep your secrets, whichever you prefer)? A character, an item, an idea for a story, lore, shitposts that happen in the world you build (what I mean by that is thinking of dumb things that would happen. Like Florida man, but fantasy or whatever genre you like), anything!

Feel free to answer as much or as little as you like, completely understand if it’s random and all but curiosity about other people’s brain worlds (and late night inhibitions being enough to trump aforementioned overthinking) is a strong motivator. Plus learning people’s processes with thinking and developing things is really interesting and fascinating, to see how their brain works (if that doesn’t sound strange lol)

I fuckin love worldbuilding. I used to be a lot more intentional when I was younger, like with a whole notebook dedicated to magic systems and religions and politics and then would build a story from what’s there. It would also bug me if I didn’t have every answer already figured out abt the world before I started writing. But then guess what? I never got very far into my writing lmao

So for the past two-three years I’ve leaned more towards a “I have a vibe and I just wing it”. There was a post I think on here that radically changed my mindset. Basically it said “you don’t have to explain everything because not everything is explained in real life” so yeah, I already hated exposition and now I just go from a character driven stand point instead of a setting inspired one. Characters are definitely my favorite part about writing— they’re very much a part of me shattered into a hundred pieces. I like getting into their minds and think like they do and just let them carry the plot. Now for a traditional book or novel, ehhh idk how well this works but for my erratic “write what you want when you want” shit that I’m on, it works.

Oh! Also I usually start writing from a vibe these days. Like I’ll see something— last night it was a car’s taillights being swallowed up as it drove up a hill— and Itll trigger some itch that u need to scratch, yk? I don’t think I’m a fantastic writer or anything, but I get invested into an idea and I’m like “shit now I have to do this” and it may take literal months to write it but eventually, it does

I follow you because of Borderline, but I've been watching your responses to asks about your a/b/o fic and it sounds like you're really trying to be respectful of the trans experience. So thank you. As a trans person, a/b/o often feels very transphobic. I know some trans people like it but to me it just feels like a way for cis people to trans their blorbos without actually dealing with what it means to be trans because "oh its just a/b/o." Maybe some people can separate the two, but I can't.

I haven't read your fic but im glad to see that someone out there is putting so much thought into this. Also it's hilarious that your solution to the Snyderverse was "fix it with a/b/o."

I really appreciate you sharing your perspective here. I've seen the process you mention in action before, and I can see how hurtful that can feel to trans individuals. It's a very blurry area in fanfiction, I'm learning.

I think when I started with that original shitpost, it was genuinely because I thought Bruce's somewhat erratic behavior in BVS was hilariously, if somewhat seriously, better explained by him being a defensive, nesting omega who'd lost a pup. So I teased folks with the idea that knotting would solve the Snyderverse, but it was actually more about Bruce's relationship with his own gender identity and how it interacts with Jason's loss and his mission.

I think, outside of a/b/o smut fics, authors have a lot of trouble when writing about this topic, just because we have to do so much worldbuilding. I'm not saying you have to focus on the universe's discrimination or gender roles if you don't want to, but it's kind of inevitable if you're moving outside of smut. There's just so many implications I keep running into.

Above all else, I want to tell the story I have in my mind in the most respectful and considerate way possible. I want to talk about Bruce's, Jason's, and even Lex's challenges with their dynamics without diminishing the experiences of gender and gender expression others have.
